I went to and worked at a large residential summer camp for a total of ten years. In that time, I had the opportunity to meet passionate leaders while working springs, summers and falls at their beautiful site. One of the highlights for me for the past three years has been the Canadian Accredited Independent School (CAIS) Middle School Leadership Conference - where the most inspiring young student leaders from across the country gather to share their passion and ideas. In her opening address this fall, Anne-Marie Kee, the Executive Director of CAIS (check out her blog here) said something that really resonated with me: one of the most important aspects of leadership is gratitude. Gratitude is so often forgotten or brushed over these days.
That is why we're starting a new tradition - ThankBack Thursdays. It's our chance to give a small shoutout to the people who have and continue to help us grow. Here are this week's shoutouts:
Dan Burrow
We brought Dan onto our team earlier this week and couldn't be happier. Dan has already proven instrumental in planning our fundraiser on November 22. His official job title with us is Social Flusher, but given his firefighting aspirations, we will forever call him Captain Flush. He's a great guy and we couldn't be more thankful to have him come on board.
Majd and Ali at Laurier Social House
Not only do Majd and Ali put up with Martin and Dan on a bi-weekly basis, but they have agreed to host what is sure to be the fundraiser of the year at their resto-bar, Laurier Social House. We can't wait to share our favourite spot in Ottawa with our supporters, new and old alike. Thank you Majd and Ali for lending an awesome venue to an awesome organization (our's, of course). Tim Shepherd
Tim was one of the first people to believe in us. We didn't even have a clear idea when Tim helped make our pilot project a reality. We will forever appreciate the support he threw our way, and remain as excited about our mission as we were the day we met Tim in Thamel, Kathmandu.
